Toddlers and Preschoolers > Use Child Life Specialists

Those of you with younger kids, be sure to ask for Child Life services if you have any surgeries, iv's or even blood draws. Some hospitals don't necessarily offer it but if you ask for it can make arrangements to have a Child Life Specialist work with your child. It really makes a difference, especially if you start early on.

Medical play helps our kids at so many levels, both of my kids had child life services and I think that's one (of many) reasons why they can cope so well with all they endure (they are 18 and 16 now). Here's a video of a pre-surgical prep session. I do wish my kids had something this good for their nasal surgeries but they did have play, just much simpler.
