Tips For Summer Camp > Empowering Camp Counselors with Good Information

This summer (2009) is our year for camps! In addition to local camps like basketball, gymnastics and Scout camps, the kids attended Kennedy Space Center Day Camp in Florida during our trip to Grandma’s house. KSC was an all day camp, no overnighters, but involved meals, snacks and the notorious Florida heat. I included the following letters along with the camp registration and I also made sure the kids’ actual camp counselor got a copy as well.

After the first day of camp, the director came up to me and thanked me profusely for having this information for them. She said that it helped them so much so be able to understand what the kids needed. The forms were clear, concise and very helpful. “We rarely get such good information about our camper’s special needs. I wish all parents would do such a good job because it really helps us to take good care of your kids.”

Kasey especially felt very nurtured and cared for, getting special bathroom privileges when she needed them.  Her camp counselor also thanked me for providing the information and was glad that she had the opportunity to learn more about cystic fibrosis and felt really blessed to have had Kasey in her class. Both kids were well cared for and had an amazing time!

I hope you find this information helpful as your kids are out there learning new things and experiencing the joys of summer camp. Have a great summer! Lisa
